Mining Course in Toronto: Mineral Property Valuation

This June, in Toronto, we will be holding Lawrence Devon Smith’s popular short course, Mineral Property Valuation. This financial course will examine the various approaches and methods of developing valuations for mineral properties and projects as well as mining companies. The three valuation approaches (Cost, Market, Income) will be discussed, along with the various methods within each approach and techniques for risk assessment. This course is part of our annual Toronto series of short courses, which focuses on mining, valuation and finance.

An Introduction to Mining and Mineral Processing

This July, Dr. Scott Dunbar will once again deliver his popular introduction to mining and mineral processing webcast, Mining 101. The course is designed for people who are new to the mining industry and for those who seek a broad understanding of mining processes: how mines are found and built, how the ore is extracted and processed, how the waste is disposed, how mineral products are marketed, and where mining is headed. This is EduMine’s most popular webcast, and has been taken by everyone from administrative staff and accountants through to geologists, directors, and CFOs.

Upcoming Webcast: Advanced Tailings and Mine Waste Facility Design, Construction, Operation, and Closure

EduMine is pleased to present the upcoming webcast Advanced Tailings and Mine Waste Facility Design, Construction, Operation, and Closure. Presenters Jack Caldwell and Ian Hutchison, along with guest presenters Bernard Brixel, Lawrence Charlebois, and Robert Cooke, will explore mine surface water; mine groundwater; geotechnical principles in mine water balances; and the management and closure of mine tailings, waste rock, and heap leach facilities. The course covers the theoretical and practical aspects of mine waste management: from objectives and approaches to simple equations, principles and practice, and case histories. This webcast is intended to augment the knowledge of those responsible for the hands-on design, construction, operation, and closure of tailings facilities, and similar mine waste structures such as waste rock dumps and spent heap leach pads.

Dr. Alastair Sinclair’s upcoming short course, Mineral Resource Estimation, will focus on the detailed methodology of various resource/reserve estimation methods that are in common use in the Mining Industry, with emphasis on general procedures, inherent assumptions, and the advantages and limitations of each of the principal methods. The course is aimed at geologists, mining engineers, surveyors, geostatisticians, and other professionals dealing with the estimation of resources/reserves in a mining context.

Rock Mechanics Course in Vancouver

There are still seats available for Dr. Doug Milne’s popular short course Rock Mass Characterization for Mine Design. Dr. Milne’s course will prepare mine staff to effectively gather geotechnical data, either from rock cuts, drifts, or core, and process the information for rock mass classification and rock mechanics design calculations. The course will explore effective mapping techniques to obtain data that can be used as input for any of the established rock classification systems. Attendees will participate in hands-on half-day underground mapping and rock classification tour at Britannia Mine, and a half-day surface mapping and rock classification field trip on the outskirts of Vancouver.
