Coal mine safety will be on everyone’s minds following last month’s horrific events. The disastrous explosion at the coal mine in Soma, Turkey in mid-May claimed the lives of 301 miners, and another explosion at the Brody Mine in West Virginia claimed the lives of two others. The flurry of reports following the Soma disaster has pointed to Turkey’s poor safety standards and apathy towards safe operations.
