Talk to Your Professional Association about CPD and eLearning Benefits

professionalMany professional associations for mining and geoscience professionals today recognize formal eLearning as credit towards CPD (continuing professional development) obligations. This is a significant benefit since busy professionals can take qualifying on-demand online courses in their own time from any location with a decent Internet connection.

EduMine has taken steps to ensure that, in general, the format and methodology of its online courses meet the CPD qualifying criteria of professional associations. This includes a robust certification methodology that confirms achievement of the planned learning outcomes and objectives of a course. If in doubt as to whether a particular course qualifies as CPD, members should check this with their respective associations.

Some professional associations and institutions have negotiated additional benefits for their members. For example, CIM (Canadian Institute of Mining, Metqallurgy and Petroleum), AusIMM (Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy) and GS (The Geological Society) have negotiated discounted, institutional enrollment rates for their members to access EduMine’s large library of online courses. CIM also sponsors development of peer-reviewed courses that qualify for CPD and CIM Certification.

The AIG (Australian Institute of Geoscientists) provides an AIG EduMine Campus for its members that allows direct enrollment in EduMine at sponsored rates. Establishment of the campus is an important development in AIG’s provision of CPD opportunities for its members that complement more traditional CPD offerings.

The SME (Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration) has negotiated a reseller arrangement with EduMine that allows SME to provide bundled enrollment and certification to its members for CPD purposes.

The SAIMM (South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy) reviews and approves individual EduMine courses for its members to ensure that they meet the CPD requirements of ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa). Other associations that provide assisted enrollment in EduMine to their members include AIMMGM (Asociación de Ingenieros de Minas, Metalurgistas y Geólogos de México A.C.) and IIMP (Instituto de Ingenieros de Minas del Peru).
